Cobra Tire Failure

Last night exiting the interstate I felt the tell-tale signs of a flat tire and sure enough as soon as I pulled over, the front went completely flat. The bike is a Vulcan 2000 and the tire is an Avon Cobra with just under 20,000 miles on it. I know, a lot of miles, but the wear bars are just about at their mark and I don't see wear having any real effect on this failure. I run between 40 and 45 pounds of air and I'm pretty religious about maintaining the pressure. Take a look at the images, you'll see onthe one side the tread is cracking around from the tread to the sidewall on nearly every tread groove. on the other side, it never happens......not once. Strange.
